A bird pooped on me

A bird pooped on me

While walking my dog I felt a PLOP hit my left shoulder. My first thought was - did a bird poop on me? A look at my shoulder confirmed it. I burst out laughing and immediately thought - that’s good luck!

As I walked, I was amazed that this was the first time it’s happened. First off, I walk a LOT. I’ve had a dog for nearly 10 years which means multiple walks a day, plus all sorts of other walks, and running. We’re talking hours of time spent outside throughout the years.

Then I think about life before dogs - I had jobs where I worked outside, many days spent in parks and beaches, and of course playing outside as a kid. I'm 47, and this is my first time getting pooped on by a bird. What fortune!

I did my Googles and found that we have a .001 chance of this happening. One article suggested that Robins are the luckiest of birds to bring this fortune into your life as they are a symbol of happiness and renewal. How fitting, as they are the birds we see and think - spring has arrived! I can only assume that it was a Robin who graced me with her treasure.

For the rest of the day I was blessed with a happy mood and had some good laughs sharing the story with friends who also interrupted to say - “that’s good luck!”. Don’t we know it!

But it’s all about perspective isn’t it? Another perspective would be - the day is going to sh*t, what else can go wrong? I knew I shouldn’t have left the house today

The beauty is through every experience we have, we get to choose how we want to look at the situation.  An argument with your partner may start the day off on a difficult note, but it doesn’t mean the day will be difficult. The fender bender on your way to work is inconvenient and backs up your schedule, but maybe it slowed you down for a reason.

You get to be the interpreter of your experiences. Meditation can be a big help with this (it has been for me). It helps you run your experiences through a filter (your meditative mind) so you can gain fresh perspective.

Alternate Nostril Breathing for Perspective and Emotional Balance is one of my favorites. Not only does it help you let go of worry, it gives your brain a reset so you can consider alternate perspectives and break patterns that no longer serve you.

To learn how to practice this meditation, click here and join the HLF Community (where we’re talking about our favorite meditations + how we use yoga & meditation to serve us in our lives). Then click here and watch the short tutorial. Practice for 3 minutes and let me know in the video comments how you feel/what you notice.

A lot can happen in just 3 minutes.

With love and luck,
Jodh
