Creating a new normal, together

Sep 15, 2020

September arrived and with her I felt a sense of heaviness. I noticed the cooler, darker mornings more than I have in the past. I'm experiencing a sense of anticipation for what fall and winter will bring. I’ve heard others are feeling this too.

But why?

In her recent podcast, Brene Brown is likening the next few months to the “Day 2” in a 3 day training she once offered. Day 2 is when you realize there is no going back, you feel raw and challenged. You want to numb yourself. You feel scared and tired. You’re in pain. It’s messy and it sucks. But the only thing to do is to take a deep breath and move forward.

She shares this quote from poet, writer and activist Sonya Renee Taylor which beautifully summarizes this time, “We will not go back to normal. Normal never was. Our pre-Corona existence was not normal, other than we normalized greed, inequity, exhaustion, depletion, extraction, disconnection, confusion, rage, hoarding, hate, and lack. We should not long to return, my friends. We are being given the opportunity to stitch a new garment, one that fits all of humanity and nature.”

The only option through the challenges of the time we are in is to move forward. To embrace the uncertainty, fear, anxiety and change. And through this, we get to be vulnerable and courageous as we create a new normal that honors and uplifts each other. That challenges the old ways. We have a spiritual and moral opportunity to know, understand and own the past. So that we can reconcile and make reparations. So that we can serve each other with dignity, respect and compassion.

And through this we need each other. We need each other to be strong, courageous and vulnerable. If you’ve been slipping in your self care practices, this is the time to reset and pour into yourself. You’ll need those resources in the coming months. And we need each other in community. Many of us have the tendency to retreat when we are not at our best. Give yourself permission to step into the community, imperfectly perfect.  How ever you need to be. We value you no matter how you show up.  Allowing yourself to be vulnerable gives permission for others to be vulnerable too.

I value community now more than ever. It’s where I get to have authentic, conscious communication. It’s where I get to make mistakes and get called out. It’s where I receive love, compassion and support. It’s where I get to be creative. It’s where I get to be me.

And yes, it’s possible to have community even during these times. In fact, we’ve started an online community where the discussion is getting started. We want to hear from you, we need your voice. If you are already a member of HealedLovedFed, please visit the Community Forum and say hello! If you aren’t yet a member, stay tuned over the next several days for a special offer to join us.

We are in this together. Let’s create a world and a way of being that serves and uplifts all.
