KISS: Keep it so simple

When embarking on your wellness journey, you may create expectations for yourself to “help” you get started. For example, “I need a new yoga mat (or cushion)” or “I need to create my meditation space with incense, candles, and photos.”

These rules don’t help, they hinder you. You judge yourself for not doing it “right” or “good enough”. As a result, you either don’t get started, or quit before experiencing the benefits.

So… Stop it. (Said with love.) You don’t need any stuff.
New things don’t make a new you.

When beginning, or re-committing to, your wellness journey, keep it so simple

Start with this simple practice:

  1. Before you go to bed, boil water. Fill your thermos or hydroflask (any container that keeps water hot) with the hot water.
  2. Place the hot water next to your bed, so you see it first thing in the morning.
  3. In the morning, when you wake up, sit up slowly. Take your water into your hands, have a moment of gratitude for waking up to a new day. Take a few slow sips of the hot water (remember it’s hot, but should be drinkable) before you get out of bed.

You’ve now started your day with a simple, intentional wellness practice to help you ease into the rest of your morning routine. Keep your water with you and continue to take a few sips every 30 minutes. This will keep you hydrated throughout the day. It also calms your nerves and soothes digestion.

If you don’t have a container for hot water, before you go to bed at night, fill your kettle or pot with water. First thing in the morning, turn on the water and bring to a boil. Fill a mug, have a moment of gratitude, and take a few slow, careful sips. Refill mug as needed throughout the day.
