Laundry, and groceries, and bills... oh my!

Laundry, and groceries, and bills... oh my!

It’s the stuff that you’ve gotta get done.

If you’ve been following my calendar prompts this month, you’ve added blue, gold and green time into your calendar. Now it’s time to focus on the red time. And this can get a little tricky as you discern what is blue (personal) time and what is red (admin + errands). Don’t overthink this, as you continue to work with your calendar each week, you can refine and make changes.

What’s on your “to-do” list that you’d rather not do? That you’d delegate to someone else if you could? Think of the chores… laundry, getting groceries, cleaning, paying bills. You may genuinely love making your list and going grocery shopping, but it’s still red (not blue) on your calendar. These are important tasks that must be done for things to run smoothly in your life.

Here’s why it’s important to add these to your calendar, and how it gives you more time:

  • Having it scheduled means you’ll avoid procrastination - the time is carved out, why not take advantage!

  • You’ll come to know just how long it takes to do that task (likely not as long as you anticipated)

  • Focused time on the task helps you complete it faster (no distractions/multitasking)

  •  You can stop letting red activities take up your precious green time (this is an avoidance technique when you’re afraid or feeling challenged)

Take time now to open your calendar and schedule in your red time. Remember red doesn’t necessarily mean tasks you don’t like. In time, the goal is to enjoy all of the time you’ve scheduled on your calendar. Also, keep in mind that this is a working document so in time, you may change colors for the same tasks as you realize what you thought was green time was actually red and so on.

As you take a step back and look at your calendar, what do you see?
What is the predominant color? What do you want to be the predominant color?

Do you have white spaces in your calendar? They’re important too! In that space, you can use it how you wish, to take time for yourself, an extra walk, coffee with a friend or you can use it to just be.

This isn’t about filling your time, it’s about finding what works for you, and making adjustments along the way.

With love,
Jodh
