Sometimes you just need to take a break

Aug 18, 2020

Seriously.

It's why we have relaxation as part of our yoga practice. We need to rest and integrate.

A couple of weeks ago, I felt all the pressure of this year in my stomach, chest and throat. Despite my tools and my practice, anxiety had returned with a vengeance. It happens. But, I know that taking prompt action helps to lessen anxiety and stress pretty quickly

I took a week off from pretty much everything (especially my computer). I read a novel, drank a lot of water, practiced breath meditation, and spent time outside near the lake with my pup. Most importantly for me, I scheduled NOTHING. It was refreshing, recharging and a much needed reset. I'm grateful that I had the opportunity and space to take that time. I needed it.

Technology is wonderful. It's our lifeline, especially this year. But it can be intense and can create a sense of "let me do one more thing." Taking breaks is important. Whether they are mini breaks during your day or week or chunks of time to get away and be outside or take a nap. Whatever refreshes and energizes you.

Take it from me, don't wait for the stress to kick in before you rest. Give yourself the grace and space for this time away - to integrate and reset. You'll be able to come back with a fresh perspective and renewed energy. I know I did!
