When life's tough & you wanna hide, do this

When things get tough - you’re fighting with your partner, you’re feeling depressed, the demands at work or at home increase, you’re feeling overwhelmed - there’s a tendency to withdraw and go inward. We call this turtling, you retreat into the perceived safety of your shell, your home, your bed to be alone, and regroup. You don’t want to bother others with your negative energy, your despair, or the conflicts you’re experiencing so take yourself out of those interactions until you're ready to show up the way you prefer to show up - as the together, unflappable woman you are.

But, there’s opportunity here. Opportunity for you to connect through your vulnerability, to share that you are a human being (!), to open yourself up for support, and to lean into the ability to nurture yourself and be nurtured.

Next time, what if, instead of turtling and withdrawing, you show up and show out

Showing up is plunking down on your mat first thing in the morning to meditate. Use mantra and breath to help you shift your vibration, recode negative self-talk, and calm your nervous system. You can find a simple meditation on page six of this free guide. Take a few minutes after your meditation to soul-journal to connect with your inner voice, and amplify your showing up practice.

Showing out is reaching out to someone you trust, and connecting with them. It could be as simple as a phone call, a walk in nature, or a coffee date. Allow yourself to be vulnerable, let them know what you need - to listen, to talk, to care, to make you laugh, to get you out of the house, to offer a fresh perspective… Share about turtling and let them know that they can reach out to you next time they want to turtle so you can support each other.

Connection with yourself and others is critical for your well-being. You don’t need to weather life’s challenges on your own. Lean into your practice (this is the time for it) and lean into your support system. Through this, you can more clearly hear the message your pain has for you, and know what you need to heal.

With love,
