This is part 9 in IzzyJi's Yoga off the Mat series.

“God has not promised me sunshine That's not the way it's going to be But a little rain (a little rain) Mixed with God's sunshine A little pain (a little pain) Makes me appreciate the good times Be grateful”  ~Be Grateful, by Walter Hawkins

This gospel song came out in 1978. I remember listening to it all the time as a little girl. I loved it so much that when I had the opportunity...

Meditation - Reflection - Discussion - Gratitude

Savitree began the tradition of chanting together on Thanksgiving morning more than 13 years ago. And we've chanted with each other every year since. Coming together at the start of the holiday season in community, with gratitude, grounds us and opens our hearts.

This year, IzzyJi will lead meditation and reflection to launch us into this unprecedented holiday season.

Battle of the Minds

Nov 17, 2020

This is Part 8 in IzzyJi’s Yoga off the Mat series.

“Anticipation, anticipation Is makin' me late Is keepin' me waitin'...”

Carly Simon, “Anticipation”

Through my surgery recovery, I have come to accept that I need to work on my three functional minds. They are constantly in battle!

Yogic anatomy teaches us  that each person is made up of ten bodies: three mental bodies, the one physical body, and six energy...

Now the real work begins

This is part 7 in IzzyJi's Yoga off the Mat series.

Whether you voted for the Biden/Harris ticket, the Trump/Pence ticket, some other ticket or no ticket at all, I think it is safe to say that this election process has been on most of our minds. Many of the topics that the candidates have brought up are ones that most people feel pretty passionate about.

One thing I’ve discussed in numerous conversations about the results is this: this is just the beginning. No...

This is part 6 in IzzyJi's Yoga off the Mat series.

Fear. Such a small word, but it packs such a punch, right? According to the Oxford Dictionary, the word “fear” is a noun and means:

an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.

I have been struggling a LOT with fear. I mean… a LOT. I can’t stress it enough. I’ve  found myself struggling with the fear of...

Hey, there's something out of balance!

Nov 02, 2020
I began teaching Kundalini Yoga earlier this year. Let me share how I got here...and the reverence for life that I've uncovered along the way.
Like many people, my journey of healing and self-discovery began during a time of desperation. Social anxiety, digestive issues, cystic acne, and a shaky sense of self were ways my body was saying, “Hey, something’s out of balance here. We love you, please help!”
I’m glad I listened.
As I eliminated...

What if I fall?

This is part 5 in IzzyJi's Yoga off the Mat series.

When I first had my knee replacement, I was given a few things to bring home with me to assist my recovery and healing, including a walker and a quad cane (a cane that has 4 feet instead of just 1).  Before I had even gone into the hospital, I had ordered some things to “upgrade” the walker I knew they would give me, including a multi-pocket “basket” to replace carrying my purse.  I was...

Progress. Not perfection.

This is Part 4 in IzzyJi’s Yoga off the Mat Series.

I remember in my second week of physical therapy, I was doing an exercise where you lift the surgical leg up to tap a step and then set it gently back onto the floor. Then, you trust that surgical leg to hold your weight while you gently lift your “good” (non-surgical) leg and do the same thing. Lift, tap, and down. Lift, tap, and down. Equally challenging to both legs because when the “good” leg is on...

Yoga off the Mat part 3

Oct 13, 2020

I have decided that part of my purpose as a yoga teacher is to help people in more abundant bodies or/and with physical challenges such as myself to help make complex/uncomfortable poses more accessible. The second week of my yoga teacher training, we had a wonderful teacher by the name of Sat Kartar Singh. I was put at ease pretty quickly that I wouldn’t be “judged” for not being able to do the complex poses. One day, he said something to me that completely changed my...

Yoga off the Mat part 2

Oct 06, 2020

Since having Total Knee Replacement surgery, guess what my favorite yoga pose is?

My FAVORITE pose/action is SAVASANA (Deep Relaxation). I’m fidgety most of the day. I’m not comfortable in any one position for very long, but when I’m able to lie down, even on the tables at therapy-- it’s HEAVEN. I can literally feel myself surrendering to the padded table, so much so that I wondered if I ever really surrendered like that during a yoga class. I’ve always...
