Using Summer Solstice to Build Your Reserves

Tomorrow we celebrate Summer Solstice which occurs June 21, 2023 at 9:58am cst. The word solstice derives from latin and means sun standing still, and we celebrate the longest day and shortest night of the year on this, the first day of summer.

As we move into summer, we experience growth thanks to an abundance of energy and light. Plants, flowers, fruits, and vegetables grow and thrive during this season in preparation for harvest. The work of planting has been done, now is the time to soak up the energy of the sun, slow down, and enjoy the warm, sunny days.

Think of this season as building your reserves for the cooler months.

Here’s how…

  • Schedule time on Solstice for meditation and journaling. Download our 3 Step Guide to Generating Sustained Energy. Practice the meditation on page six for 3-11 minutes. The mantra used in this meditation: Sa Ta Na Ma helps you connect with the cyclical nature of life and the seasons. Pairing the mantra with your breath helps to quiet your mind, allowing for a moment of presence. Meditation connects you with your inner compass and your soul. Listen to her voice as you journal following meditation.
Here’s a suggested prompt: My wins in 2023 are… (be sure to include your future wins)
    Take time to celebrate yourself!
  • Daily yoga & meditation.Take advantage of the earlier sun rise and get up a little earlier each day until you’ve reached your desired wake up time. You’ll have a well established habit by the end of summer.
  • Get outside & move your body. Call or text a friend and schedule a walk in the morning or evening when the temperatures are milder and the sun isn’t as hot. Scheduling around sunrise or sunset is a bonus! Hold each other accountable, and enjoy that time in nature as you connect with each other. Starting this habit in the summer will make it easier to maintain in the cooler months.
  • Stay hydrated. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty, keep your water bottle filled, and sip throughout the day.

I highly recommend putting these into your calendar now to elevate your commitment to yourself.

Slow down, embrace the sun, feel gratitude, and have a happy Solstice!

With love,
Jodh
